Pack for your first day
Set aside a charger, a change of clothes, a towel and essential toiletries before packing everything else. Keep documents, keys and necessary medicines with you. Label a separate box ‘First evening’ and keep it easy to reach on arrival. It should not end up behind all the other boxes.
Group by destination
Pack one box for one room or task. Kitchenware can be unpacked together, and work supplies near the new desk. If a box contains items for different rooms, say so in the list. An accurate mixed-box list is more useful than a neat label that describes the wrong contents.
Label two sides
Use a short name and number: ‘Kitchen 03 — mugs and tea’ or ‘Bedroom 02 — bed linen’. Numbers distinguish similar boxes. Repeat the label on the lid and one side, since stacked boxes hide lid-only labels. Mark fragile contents, but remember that a label does not replace suitable protective packaging.
Record the contents before sealing
Photograph items and give them short names. Add colour, purpose or another identifying detail where needed. In My Stuff, create a virtual box with the same name. Attach the matching QR code to the real box to open its list when unpacking. Name search helps you find a particular item.
Update locations after the move
Place boxes in their intended rooms, then unpack one at a time. Record each item's new location: ‘Bedroom wardrobe, middle shelf’ is clearer than ‘Home’. Update records as boxes empty. Your packing list can become a useful home inventory. Start with one room so the system supports the move without becoming another big task.
